Binghamton University Running Club Races at Deneault Invitational
CORNELL, NY -- Members of the Binghamton University Running Club got their first taste of legit racing in a really, really long time yesterday at the Deneault Invitational. This marks the first time in running club history that the running club competed as a club at an NCAA-level track meet.
Highlighting the running club's venture into Barton Hall on the Cornell campus was Ben Bulson, who managed to run a 2:05.04 in the 800 meters. Bulson's performance has given him high hopes. "If I can do that now, I can't wait to see what I can do outdoors in the spring." Bulson and the running club hope that he can break 2 minutes in the 800 meters by the end of the spring semester.
Other notable performances include the near-breaking of the 10 minute mark in the 3000 meter run by Chris Rubow and Ethan Myers. Rubow was pretty ticked when he heard that his time was 10:00.02, and Myers was not willing to comment on his race, though they both set new personal records. Also, the club managed to run a 9:07 4x8, featuring former Division 1 Runner Phil Ross, Ben Bulson (who managed to run another 2:05), Chris Rubow, and recovering runner Matthew Gawors.
The club's next race will be the Shamrock Run, a 1 mile road race through the streets of Binghamton, on March 6th.
